A decade before G.O. Smith, 10 years before Bloomer and almost 15 years before Meredith came to fame, this card was issued. It shows of one of two sporting brothers, to of the greatest sportsmen in the land - and the gr4eatest cricketer WG Grace thought very highly of Frank & Walter.

Frank Sugg was one of the first all-time-greats in sport. He played many sports to the very top level, captaining ENGLAND at cricket and playing for 5 top-flight English league soccer teams

Sugg left Derby County for Lancashire & Everton in late 1886. This Baines card dates from just before or around that very time, 1886, still showing him as Derby County captain,

Cards in the C19th took time to make and print. Creating a design which got approved led to making artwork in up to 4 colours. This was just the first stage. Then came the etching of the various artworks to creat a printing plate. This often took some months from inception to finished product.
