Barratt 1922-23 generic issues, A-types
These cards pre-date the Barratt 1924-27 cards, and the V.C.C. cards, and Watkins Cough Drops cards, etc..
Produced by an entrepreneurial printer who'd acquired photos of footballers, cricketers and film stars
these cards were sold to firms like Barratt, V.C.C., and Watkins, etc., which added their own publicity
and distributed the cards with their own produce. This practice was widespread, as far afield as Spain & Italy.
It seems Barratt acquired the design as its own by 1924, using some of the very same images which it
overprinted with 'Copyright', at around the same time it took over rival London confectionery firms.
