DANCKLEMAN SCHRADER
I have these in my own collection but the time is not ripe to sell, unless I get a very robust bid. So, I'm not showing them here as yet
In 1915 the 'Cigarillos Londres' brand of tobacco (hence the C L logo) included silken cigarette cards with their smokes, each silk featuring Uruguayan teams of the time. The owners of the brand were Danckleman & Schrader.
Immensely rare, the series of <30 silks has never been fully catalogued.
The River Plate teams of 1913, 1914 & 1915 show star footballer, a Uruguay national side legend known as DON JOSE, José Benincasa.
The earliest-ever image on a card of the sky blue jersey which Uruguay wears for internationals is seen on the "River Plate champions 1913" silk. The victorious club had first worn the sky-blue 'away' colours in winning a continental trophy against Argentine opposition, in 1910, and they did it again in 1912: the Copa de Honor Cousenier. Uruguay's national team decided to adopt the same colours.
